Three Bridge Fiasco 2025
With 300 boats participating this year, the event lived up to its "Fiasco" name, with sailors making varied - and sometimes opposite - choices and experiencing diverse conditions. The multihull division showed a strong showing, with many starting and finishing.
This year's edition was characterized by light winds and a strong ebb tide, particularly at the start. Many sailors struggled with the current, with some boats being "flushed" out of the gate. Weather conditions varied throughout the race, including fog, sun, and even a squall later in the day on their way back to Richmond.
As usual, sailors adopted different strategies, some going clockwise and others counterclockwise. Key decision points included whether to round Blackaller first or head directly to Red Rock. Many participants had to adapt their plans due to changing conditions.
On notable performances, Rick Waltonsmith and Dave Olson on 'Round Midnight won the double-handed Multihull division. They completed the race after struggling with the ebb tide, rounding Red Rock and finishing via Blackaller. On Flux, their SeaCart 30, Jeremy and Aidan took second place. Evan, sailing Greyhound, his F-22, finished the race and won the single-handed division. He went clockwise, rounding Blackaller, Red Rock, and Yerba Buena.
Andrew and Anton on Pegasus 3 finished choosing a counterclockwise route despite a late start. Ma's Rover and Papillon were also among the finishers.
Other boats, like Tri Jolie had to retire after being flushed out of the gate, either with no chance of sailing back into the bay or like Caliente, ending up in the restricted area south of the South Tower.
Overall, the 3 Bridges Fiasco 2025 provided a challenging and memorable experience for the participants, with finishing considered a significant achievement given the challenging conditions.
