BAMA Announces 2026 Doublehanded Farallones Race

farallones 2025
This legendary short-handed offshore racing event challenges two-person crews to sail from the iconic Golden Gate Bridge out to Southeast Farallon Island, 24 nautical miles west into the Gulf of the Farallones, and back. It’s the ideal proving ground for skilled sailors and their boats—from lightweight Moore 24s and nimble Corsair trimarans to powerful Santa Cruz 70s and sleek J/boats.
Why You’ll Love This Race:
The DHF is more than just a test of speed—it’s a test of seamanship, decision-making, and crew cohesion. The tactical choices made at the starting line can make the difference between victory and second place. Once you’ve pointed the bow toward the islands, you’ll find new gears you didn’t know your boat had. And rounding Southeast Farallon Island, with its moody mix of granite rocks, shifting winds, and ocean swells, remains one of offshore sailing’s most memorable moments.
What to Expect:
•Live scoring and position tracking via Jibeset, updated throughout the race day
•Improved VHF communications through BAMA’s partnership with the San Francisco Ham Radio Club
•Flexible course options: sail inside Mile Rock, choose your rounding direction around the islands
•Virtual skippers meetings and awards ceremonies, perfect for participants traveling from outside the Bay Area
•AIS transponder requirement for safety monitoring and coordination
Inclusive Racing:
BAMA remains committed to facilitating participation from as many boats and sailors as possible. Alternate solutions are available for boats with special requirements, and comprehensive safety training opportunities are offered year-round. Whether you’re an experienced ocean racer or stepping into offshore competition for the first time, there’s a place for you in the DHF.
