BAMA Race Start Clinic Part 2: On The Water Practic
April 1 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pmFREE to Current BAMA Members
On Satruday, 4/1, BAMA will conduct the second part of it’s two-part race start learning event. The Saturday on-the-water session, which will start at 11 AM, south of the Bay Bridge (think the waters of the Inter Club / South Bay Bridge Series), will consist of a whole series of race starts, one after another. This is a great opportunity to really practice race starts, including how to maneuver around in the pre-start, where to position your boat in the fleet for the start, and how to to hit the start line right at the start signal, at speed.
We will score each start, i.e. scoring will be based on the order that each boat crosses the start line, so you will be able to see how well you did in each start. However, there will be no actual race after each start. Once one start is complete, and we’ve recorded the results, we will reset and go into sequence for the next start. So if you mess up your first start, or your second, or your third, you will have additional opportunities to do it all over again. And you can try multiple different strategies, or hone your technique. As always, practice makes perfect! Also note that we are going to try to set the start line in such a way that we can practice both upwind and downwind starts.
Registration will be on Jibeset. The event is free to 2023 BAMA members, and you don’t need to have a current rating for your boat to participate. We hope to see you out there.
